Welcome to Acworth Georgia

Photograph of Historic Downtown Acworth, Georgia. Taken September, 2006. View is along Main Street. To the South East of Lake Acworth in Cobb County lies Acworth, otherwise known as the 'Lake City'. It has population of 13,422 as of the 2000 census. It is a thriving small town with many buildings that reflect its passage through Victorian times. Known originally as Andersonville and then Northcutt Station it was given its present name in 1843. General Sherman’s troops destroyed the town during their Civil War campaign and the place had to be completely rebuilt.

This friendly Southern town is therefore a great place to visit and explore the North Georgia Mountain area. The Kennworth Bandits are based between Kennesaw and Acworth. There are plenty of activities to be had in and around Acworth – All types of water sports are available on Lake Acworth with many picnic and walking facilities. You can see ‘The General’ a Civil War locomotive at the 'Big Shanty' Museum.
